Duet in the Frozen Food Aisle
Picture, if you will....
Grocery store. CD's pushing the cart, Bear's in the kid seat.
They're scouting ice cream and bobbing their heads to their own internal rhythm.
CD: "Right about now..."
Bear: "Funk soul brotha"
CD: "Just about now...."
Bear: "The funk soul brotha..."

I love that song! And I'm glad Bear is learning the classics. :-)

Good deal! Kids should learn unexpected duets with their folks. It keeps the relatives off balance.

CD got out his guitar and started playing THAT song. "Love is all you need". Badly. And singing. Badly. Sweetly. But badly.
Bear got up, went over to the change jar, got a handful, and dropped it in CD's open guitar case.
Don't encourage him, kid.

This reminds me of a comment my five-year-old made yesterday:
"Mom, you make the best Chef Boyardee in the whole world!"
Isn't it great that our kids are our number one fans? Oh, THAT won't last I know, but I'm savoring superstardom while I still can!

Ran across your blog from another that had been nominated for the Weblog Awards. I read and read about Bear and the whole time - with tears running down my face at work - I was thinking: "I have one of those at home!" Actually, I have 3 of those at home...
My middle kidlet, my daughter, was once sitting in the back of the car, singing and talking to herself when suddenly she piped up: "Mom, your work is sooooo beautiful!" "What work?" "Your stained glass." Well, I "do" glass as a sometimes hobby so I said thank you and as I drove away from the intersection I asked: "What brought that on?"
"Those. Your windows over there," referring to a good-sized church with good-sized stained glass.
Yes.
Mommy makes all of that.
I'll be back for more of your blog, guaranteed.

Renee! I was JUST telling my "baby" about that -- lamenting my loss of "Magic Mommy" status.
I had the child CONVINCED I could make the street lights turn green. NOW, I can't even help him with his math homework. It's too complicated for me.
*sigh*
He'll be fourteen in four days. Whereinhell did the time go!? I just brought him home from the hospital!!
Oh, and xoxo Elizabeth. xoxo to infinity.

What a lovely image. I sing badly, yet the smiles on our kids' faces when I do is enough to keep me bellowing - at least until the cat decides he's had enough.
Thankfully my writing is better than my singing. They're still too young to appreciate the subtlety of words, but one day, hopefully they'll realize just how much they contribute to my work.
You have a wonderful blog. I look forward to exploring more of it in the days and weeks to come.
