I've got a new crush

"Lord, in the memory of all the saints who from their labors rest, and in the joy of a new beginning, we ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to get in back, when brown can stick around, when yellow will be mellow, when red can get ahead; and when white will embrace what is right. That all those who do justice and love mercy say Amen. Say Amen!"

1 Interestingly, that's the ONLY part I didn't like. Found the little jab at the end kind of offensive.

2 It was. It was offensive, and outrageous, and demanding, and unrepentant. That's why I appreciated it so much - this guy has been using this chant for a long time. He stood with MLK. He had his property confiscated by the state of Alabama for libel because of his civil rights work. He had the last word and the world's attention - literally - and he used it to say - "we aren't there yet, and I am still waiting for that day..." I don't know if I agreed with his words, but I respect the heck out of him saying them. It wasn't comfortable, it wasn't easy, but he stands for what he stands for and he believes what he believes - you know?
