Only of interest if you know who John Crichton is...

One of the goals I made for myself lo! these many years ago was to write a piece of fiction and let others read it. I *suck* at fiction, but like most wannabe writers often daydreamed my name on a book spine at Barnes & Noble.

Over the years, I tried to keep this promise to myself. I really did. I wrote thousands of pages. But none of my efforts ever passed the "cringe test" - where I would go back and read it later and not cringe with shame.

Then last year I caught an episode of a show called "Farscape" - which had already been off the air when I got into it. Happy TiVo, I spent many cold wintry nights plunged in the crazy sci-fi world of Peacekeepers and wormholes.

And when the shows stopped, I started writing. I had never written anything based on a TV show before - I was complete "fan fiction" newbie, so I reached out to one of the mentors on a website I found - her handle is 'Windfire' and wow, she was an amazing editor and cheerleader. What a difference it is to have someone looking at my work while I am in the process!

So. When I was done writing and she was done proofing, my alter-ego "EllaScaper" had written, well, about 40,000 words. It's called Scions. And? It didn't make me cringe.

I've been puttering with a sequel,( to be honest it has been slow going, my distractions have been uh, really distracting).

Then, when I got home from Paris, I had a bunch of emails saying that the story had been nominated in a bunch of categories for the Farscape Fans' Sparky Awards. I suspect that a certain nice person, who is too kind, nominated me. But I can't begin to say how grateful I am. Sometimes I really think that I tap away in a vacuum, and then really nice things happen - a bunch of folks comment, or someone mentions that my words have impact. And I, like, totally live for that. Dude. Totally.

So this is my public outing of the story, and my deepest thanks to whoever thought it was worthy. No, really. Thank you.

3 Frag-tastic, I've read your blog for a year? or so and appreciated your writing/outlook as I'm in a similar situation. It's so silly, but when you only read one aspect of a person, you form a mental image. Hence, I was surprised by the admission of farscape fan fiction---I never imagined your interests would intersect my guilty pleasure (does that render me a doppelganger after the effect?). With good-natured skepticism I clicked over. After following the link...Sheebus! Amazing writing, true skill to make the characters and plot come alive with the same humor and galactic/internal struggle as a season of shows. What's next? Promise me it doesn't entail baptism and hot coals.

4 I'm sitting here blushing. You give me too much credit. I just was lucky enough to polish your diamond a little. You're an awesome writer and I hope you keep it up.

5 I absolutely LOVED Scions and was amazed that it was your first venture into fanfic. You channeled the characters beautifully, as well as juggling five or six plot threads simultaneously. That is no easy feat, my friend! Now get on the ball and give us that sequel, I've been waiting a LONG time. LOL Hugs, Nora

6 Fantastic! See, I told you it was good. I enjoyed it and that was without the benefit of knowing Farscape.

7 Yet another achievement! And one you've clearly worked very hard on. Keep up the good work. I just know you're going places with this-and I get inspiration from your drive.
